London House news [Jan. '11]

Again this year, in February, we will be exhibiting at The Franchise Show at Londons ExCel Arena.

This will be our third year at the show and further details, including free tickets, can be found on the link within this newsletter.

We are seeing increasing numbers of enquiries from prospective London House Franchisees, and this show gives us an excellent opportunity to further our continued growth.

A false Beard

Some time ago we were asked to trace and serve documents on a "Mr. Smith" who had gone away and left substantial debts incurring interest at £3000+ per day.

We attended at various linked addresses and at one we met a little old lady who told us she knew him and had purchased the property from him. She informed us that he came back to the house two days after the sale and wanted an urn from the garden shed, which had his good friend's ashes in.

The friend's name was Mr. Beard and this prompted further investigation which led us to find out that the subject had taken on the identity of the deceased friend, Mr. Beard, and we subsequently traced him to a number of addresses in Spain. At one of these, we caught up with him, his true identity given away by the housekeeper, and he was served.

Focus on... Process Serving

It is a common fact that when claim forms are sent out direct from the Courts, many are returned "Gone Away". One of the strengths of having our own field force to serve documents is the ability to confirm that the subject is indeed resident, with at least 50% of those dealt with still at the address already provided. This is down to the efforts of our managers in making enquiries into the subjects residential status. Once confirmed, and if still proving difficult, our findings can be used in evidence to effect service by substituted means.

Where's my turf?

Just before Christmas, I came across my certificate which tells me I am the proud owner of 1 square metre of the pitch at the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes. I bought this when the stadium was built. For those of you that are not keen hockey supporters or based in Milton Keynes, you may not know that in 2009 the stadium site was made available to Network Rail and that the stadium was demolished to make way for their new National Headquarters.

Now this is undoubtedly great news for Milton Keynes, as the new building will house 3000+ staff and brings new jobs to the City, but despite the public consultations with the people of Milton Keynes, I can find no record of what has happened to my turf. Do I now own some concrete?

Welcome to 2011

A Happy New Year to you and all of our other friends and colleagues.
